Tony Romo has become a star broadcaster but he’s a pretty good golfer and reminded us at Pebble Beach on Friday.

Prior to shifting into a role as the lead NFL game analyst for CBS, and proving to be very good at it, Tony Romo seemed to have some aspirations to try to become a pro golfer. He still dabbles in golf on a public stage though and is doing so again this week at the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach with Jim Furyk as his pro playing partner.

Romo is apparently playing the tournament with a hand-me-down wedge from Jordan Spieth and a hand-me-down putter from Tiger Woods. That’s a higher level of second-hand equipment than 99.9 percent of people have access to, but it’s nice to have the kind of friends Romo does.

Romo stepped to the tee on the par-4 15th hole. His tee shot was so far off the grid left that the Golf Channel cameras couldn’t track it well.

Romo’s ball was found, and it was playable (to use the term loosely), sitting nicely in middle of a hospitality tent’s carpeted area . Romo had an unobstructed lie on said carpet, with a clear view of the green if he could boldly pull off a Phil Mickelson or Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy impression.

The way Romo confidently walked after the shot should have been a sign it was pretty good, and he almost holed-out after spinning it back. As it was, he tapped in for a birdie in some tough conditions. Golf Digest.com instantly tabbed Romo’s phenomenal recovery shot as the shot of the year. It surely was the shot of day on Friday at Pebble Beach, and it should easily be the shot of the week once the weekend is over.
