The Houston Texans have an important offseason ahead with the several needs they must address.

This offseason promises to have a few interesting storylines for the Houston Texans. They’ll head into the free agent market with over $60 million to spend while having a few of their own players hitting the market.

The biggest question facing the franchise is how they will handle the free agency of Jadeveon Clowney. Their prized defender will be looking for a massive contract or face the possibility of playing on the franchise tag.

Cornerback Kareem Jackson is also a free agent and someone the team might want to bring back into the mix.

If Houston works out long-term deals for both Clowney and Jackson it would eat into much of their available cap space. This would limit their potential to address other needs via free agency.

Luckily, Houston is well stocked with draft picks for this year. They have their own first round pick and an extra second round selection from the Seattle Seahawks. That’s enough draft capital for Houston to get creative if needed.

The two second round picks are especially important because it could allow the Texans to make a huge jump up in the first round. There are a handful of players in this year’s draft that might be worth that type of investment.

Houston needs a strong offseason in order to keep pace in what has become a very competitive AFC South. The Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars are all strong teams with the potential to win the division.
