5. Jason Verrett, Los Angeles Chargers

A large part of the current and past success for the Los Angeles Chargers can be attributed to the top-notch cast of players the team has been able to put together in the defensive secondary. They have brought in Casey Hayward as a free agent, signed Adrian Phillips as an undrafted free agent, and drafted Derwin James, Desmond King and Jason Verrett.

However, the latter player named has been hit with an array of injuries that have limited his ability to suit up. Verrett has only played in 25 games in four seasons, including only five games between 2016 and 2017.

2018, Verrett tore his Achilles prior to the season, which resulted in him missing the whole year. Coming off such a drastic injury comes with risk for potential suitors. But he will still have a market from interested teams.

Why will teams want to sign Verrett, an oft-injured player coming off a career-threatening injury? Because when he is healthy, he is a Pro-Bowl cornerback. In his last full season in 2015, he had three interceptions in 14 games for the Chargers.

Verrett is a low-risk, high-reward signing waiting to happen. While it may be too much to think he will be able to play to the level he did in 2015, he can still be a number-two corner in the NFL when fully healthy.
