Round 1 – Pick 19

Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida

Last season entering the draft the Titans were eyeing defensive talent. They came away with two top tier players in Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry. The latter of which fell for reasons that still are not solid in my eyes. Nevertheless Tennessee softened the loss of Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan with that fantastic selection. Landry started three games for the Titans and finished the season with 4.5 sacks but an impressive 14 quarterback hits. His second year and future are very bright.

However the loss of those two veteran pass rushers will still be felt if Tennessee cannot find a replacement early in the draft. Lucky for them this is a loaded pass rusher class and one will fall into their lap at pick 19. In this mock draft that player was Florida’s Jachai Polite.

A duo of Polite and Landry should scare every opposing tackle in the NFL. Polite is a menace off the edge with an impressive first step and a developing pass-rush plan. He made a big leap in 2018 which indicates his best football may be ahead of him. Polite may need to increase his play strength but his motor and bend will get him on the field early. He is a quarterback hunter and should be a dominant pass rusher the minute he steps onto an NFL field.

With Jurel Casey, Landry and Polite Tennessee is building a foundational front that can not only get after the passer but prevent lateral plays. They’ll need to sure up the middle a bit more (it’s coming in the draft) but the Titans defense would get a major upgrade with Polite.
