2019 NFL mock draft: Cardinals select Quinnen Williams
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants will hold the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft this April, but they could be picking a lot earlier if they decide to go up and get the best quarterback available. As the order currently stands, the Giants are the first team to pick that has a desperate need at the quarterback spot, and you have to think that Dwayne Haskins from Ohio State will be the first quarterback off the board.
Haskins did not have a long career as the starter for the buckeyes, as he started only one season in Columbus, but he put together some incredible tape for NFL scouts to dissect. In his only season as the starter, Haskins threw for 50 touchdowns, helping lead Ohio State to a victory in the Rose Bowl over Washington.
Eli Manning has been one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL during his career, leading the Giants to two Super Bowl victories where he was named the Most Valuable Player of the game. However, despite putting up solid numbers in 2018, this franchise has to start thinking about life after Manning, and Haskins would be the kind of player who could step in and take over once Manning decides to retire.
It does not seem like that long ago that Manning was taking over for Kurt Warner, but incredibly, that happened 15 years ago. The Giants have had a solid run with Manning as their quarterback, but Father Time waits for no one, and this organization needs to select a new franchise quarterback, especially after passing on one in 2018.
