2. Help up front

It’s hard to actually believe the Chiefs up front, but it’s kind of complicated case in this scenario. Generally things aren’t complicated when it comes to personnel in the NFL. You’re either good enough to play or you’re not.

In the case of the Chiefs they have guys that are more than capable of getting the job not at an above average clip. Take pending free agent Allen Bailey for example. He had a career year and benefited from the fact that he saw a ton of one-on-one matchups because Justin Houston, Chris Jones and Dee Ford commanded so much attention.

Xavier Williams who was brought in specifically to help against the run but was not effective, as the Chiefs sported one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. Was it the talent levels of Bailey and Williams? Or was it coaching and scheme?

That being said the Chiefs can free up some money by not bringing back Bailey and cutting Williams. If that happens then you’re down two big guys up the middle that you’ll have to replace behind Jones and Derrick Nnadi.

It’s doubtful they fill this gap in the draft -unless someone like Jeffrey Simmons falls to them in the second round — so expect them to dip into the free-agent market up front.
