Welcome to ‘NHL DraftKings Friday Late Slate Stack Attack’. This article will focus on the best NHL lineup stacks on DraftKings for Friday February 22nd, 2019.

There are two NHL DraftKings games to look at ahead of tonight with one of them locking at 9 p.m. so there isn’t much wiggle room for late stack swaps.

I will begin by looking at my favorite line/power play stacks before transitioning to ideal value picks. I may also refer to a ‘top-five stack’ which is a team’s top line combined with their number-one defenceman and starting goaltender.

Let’s start with everyone’s favorite stack: any team against Anaheim.

Anaheim Ducks (24-27-9) @ Calgary Flames (37-16-7)

As long as the Ducks are absolutely awful, we will be targeting them on virtually every slate we can. They’re 3-7 over their last ten games and have a terrible 12-18-1 record on the road. To make matters worse, they’re going up against a Calgary team with the seventh-best power play in the league and a 19-5-5 record at home.

The Flames’ top-six is looking a little different these days as Elias Lindholm ($6.7K) has dropped down to the second line resulting in Matthew Tkachuk ($5.4K) being promoted to top-line duties alongside Johnny Gaudreau ($6.8K) and Sean Monahan ($6.5K). All four of them play on the top power play with Mark Giordano ($6.6K) but unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to use all five.

Lindholm is still a solid stack option over Tkachuk given the season he’s having, but Tkachuk really is incredibly tempting and would complete the top-five stack without sacrificing any power play exposure. Unfortunately, you can’t (likely) pick both so you’re just gonna have to make a judgment call.

It appears as though Mike Smith ($8.4K) will get another start in net and he should be in for a serious ego boost against an uninspired Anaheim offence. If you opt to go with Tkachuk in your stack, you’ll have $4.075K left per remaining roster spot whereas you’ll have $3.75 left per roster spot if you decide to pick Lindholm.

Either way, you’re getting an imperative piece of a high-flying offence against the perpetual disappointment that is the Anaheim Ducks.

Next, we’ll see how the Jets and Golden Knights stack up.

Winnipeg Jets (36-20-4) @ Golden Knights (32-25-5)

Both the Jets and the Golden Knights currently have a spot in the playoffs, but neither has played their best hockey lately. The Jets are 4-4-2 over their last ten games while the Golden Knights are 3-6-1.

The Jets are still first in the Central Division and have too much offence to ignore. They have the fifth-best power play in the league and will have an enticing matchup against the Golden Knights’ 24th-ranked penalty kill.

Winnipeg is also a convenient stack since Mark Scheifele ($6.9K), Blake Wheeler ($6.8K), and Kyle Connor ($5.5K) play on both the top line and the top power play unit. A top-five stack with them would include Jacob Trouba ($5.6K) and Connor Hellebuyck ($7.7K) leaving $4.375K per remaining roster spot.

Dustin Byfuglien (lower-body injury) is still out for the rest of the Jets’ current road-trip meaning Trouba should also see even more usage than usual.

Patrik Laine ($5.7K) is the fifth member of the top power play (along with the four players from the top-five stack), but I can’t recommend him in good faith as he has just three assists and 23 shots over his last 10 games. He’s talented, but that’s some seriously lackluster production and we cannot roster him with confidence right now. There are players who are more worthwhile at a similar price point.

Now it’s time to spot the value before we start building our lineups.

Spotting The Value

Regardless of whether or not you end up with a Calgary stack, Jack Roslovic ($3K, Line 2, PP2) is undoubtedly the value play of the night. In addition to top-six and power play exposure, the 22-year-old has four goals and six points over his last 10 games. He’s a must-have in most lineups.

On the other side of this game, Bryan Little ($4.2K, Line 2, PP2) and Shea Theodore ($4.4K, Line 2, PP1) both have a lot to offer given their low prices. Choosing Little also allows you to create a mini-stack with Roslovic on both the second line and the power play.

Remember, the full line stack isn’t worth it since Laine has been ice-cold lately.

If you decide to stack Jets, there’s a couple of intriguing value options from the Flames as T.J. Brodie ($4.3K, Line 1, PP2) and Sam Bennett ($3.5K, Line 3, PP2) in particular offer you some great alternative value. Bennett has two goals, two assists, and five blocked shots over his last ten games and likes to get involved in the game by any means necessary.

Now let’s create our initial lineup.

Sample Lineup

Remember, this is just a re-creation of what an ideal lineup might look like based on my opinion. This is not a surefire NHL DraftKings winner and should not be directly used as your lineup.

Also, remember to check both your lineups and the news as close to lock as possible as starting goaltenders, healthy scratches, and injuries occur constantly. It’s not nearly as bad as basketball but you should still be on your toes. Good luck tonight!
