Trey Flowers rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
The suitors for Trey Flowers will be out in force once free agency kicks off, but which five teams are the best fits for the defensive end?
After spending four seasons in New England, defensive end Trey Flowers is set to be an unrestricted free agent once free agency opens up on March 13. Flowers has blossomed into an extremely solid defensive end while with the Patriots and will have quite a number of teams interested in his services.
After playing collegiate football at Arkansas, Flowers entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft selection of the Patriots. Despite not playing at all essentially in his rookie season, Flowers has quietly developed into a star.
In his three active seasons, Flowers has 21 sacks, 59 quarterback hits, and 25 tackles for loss. His ability to get after the quarterback but also be stout against the run allows him to be an every-down player should he be used in that capacity. Possessing that dual-threat will make him a very sought after man in the coming months.
5. Cleveland Browns
The first logical destination for Flowers is in Cleveland. I know what you might be thinking, why would anyone willingly sign with the Browns? Well, these aren’t the Browns of the last decade. Cleveland is poised to be a contender now with Baker Mayfield at quarterback. They also bet on themselves this offseason and promoted Freddie Kitchens to head coach after he had a successful second half of the season as offensive coordinator.
New defensive coordinator Steve Wilks would love to get his hands on another dynamic defensive end to add to his already solid defensive line. Adding Flowers to the mix with Myles Garrett, Larry Ogunjobi, and Emmanuel Ogbah would be borderline unfair.
That young core is already solid, adding Flowers would throw in a veteran with a plethora of playoff experience to bring them to the next level. The Browns could quickly ascend to the top of the AFC North as the Steelers and Ravens both seem to be trending down and the Bengals just hired a new coach. Given the current situation, a move to Cleveland could make a lot of sense for Flowers.
