Ha Ha Clinton-Dix rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
By Nick Villano
3. Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins are still firmly in the hunt to bring back Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Again, we said before that he really found a nice role in that defense once the sting of getting traded wore off. His play in pass protection was up and down, but again this Redskins team was terrible once Smith got hurt. The defense was on the field for way too long, and with them being down so often teams weren’t even passing, which means he had no chance to boost his interception numbers.
Clinton-Dix had three interceptions in five games with the Green Bay Packers, but none with the Redskins. Obviously, there’s more to being a safety than interceptions, but teams will pay a guy who can get the offense the ball more than a guy who can’t.
Siding with the Redskins for the long haul would help this kid’s career. He’s the kind of player that would thrive in a consistent system. He can get in front of the ball, rarely misses tackles and in the right place he can once again be a really good safety.
The Redskins do have much bigger fish to fry, and with Smith’s contract still on the books their salary cap situation is not ideal. They are only projected to have around $14 million in space. If they give Clinton-Dix $10 million, that leaves them with enough to pay their draft picks and that’s it. If they want to bring back Ha Ha, then there are some hard cuts they’d need to make.
