Wolves host strugglers Cardiff this weekend. The home side suffered a terrible 1-0 loss away to Huddersfield, leaving many to determine that Wolves play down to their competition. Nuno Espirito Santo has got to find a way to get his team playing up to their level. They’re tied with Watford on 40 points for that “best of the rest” status after the top six.
Cardiff will provide a decent test, matching Wolves with the physicality of their side. However, they’ve lost their last two and have only won two league games this calendar year. Their form on the road is terrible, only collecting eight points. They’ve also only scored nine goals away from home, tied with Fulham for second worst, with Huddersfield worst in that department.
In addition, Cardiff have as many points this season as goals scored with 25. They also have the second worst defense in the league, giving up 55. Only Fulham are worse, conceding 63. Neil Warnock will need to get results quickly, sitting two points behind Southampton for the last relegation spot. The boss ain’t getting any younger, despite his admirable drive to keep managing, he’s got a huge job on his hands to avoid relegation.
Cardiff also have tough matches on the horizon, so they’ll need inspired performances along the way. But Wolves will feel the same in order to match the ambitions of their investors, who hope to take this club on a European tour in the coming seasons. Expect a tight affair between the two sides, Cardiff won the last meeting 2-1 back in late November.
