While most of the attention at the NFL Combine Saturday was focused on the quarterbacks, Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf stole the show with a jaw dropping display of athleticism.

There were questions surrounding D.K. Metcalf entering the combine due to his uncertain health history, specifically after a neck injury cut his 2018 season short. Metcalf put all of those concerns to rest with a series of tests and measurements that left pro scouts drooling and the internet exploding.

In terms of the measurables, Metcalf checked in at 6’3 and 228 pounds, a monstrous size for an NFL receiver. To make things even more ridiculous, Metcalf has just 1.6% body fat, a fact that anyone who has seen photos of him in the weight room can attest to.

Metcalf’s impressive physique was one thing, but what he did in the combine drills was even more dazzling. All of that muscle, which makes Metcalf a heavier player than Cowboys’ linebacker Jaylon Smith, led to him bench press 225 pounds 27 times, which NFL Research notes is more than Redskins’ tackle Trent Williams did at the combine.

In terms of drills that relate to the receiver position, Metcalf put together a 40.5 inch vertical leap (which is better than Odell Beckham Jr’s combine number), a 11’2″ broad jump (which is more than DeSean Jackson’s 10′ combine mark) and an insane 4.33 second time in the 40 yard dash. Check out the footage of that incredible sprint below.

The fact that a guy as big and cut as Metcalf can run the 40 yard dash that fast is incredibly impressive. For a comparison, 6’3 Julio Jones ran the 40 in 4.39 seconds, and Jones is considered one of the most gifted athletes in the NFL today.

There are still injury concerns with Metcalf, who also missed significant time in 2016, but this combine performance could shoot the talented wideout up draft boards. The New York Jets tweeted out a video of Metcalf’s 40 yard dash, and while they may not look for him with the third overall pick he could be an option for them if they trade back.

Metcalf will look to build on his incredible combine performance during Ole Miss’ Pro Day on March 29th. If he can come close to duplicating some of these figures, Metcalf could easily end up in the top 10 of the draft next month.
