Nick Foles’ new deal, Urban Meyer back in college football, pizza wars

Nick Foles has a new team, but it’s not the one you’re thinking of, Urban Meyer’s short retirement and the best pizza in Chicago is on tap in today’s Schmidt List.

Nick Foles signs a new deal

Nick Foles has signed a new deal! While NFL free agency’s legal tampering kicked off on Monday, it was the former Super Bowl MVP and Eagles quarterback announcing he’s ready to play for a new team. Foles is the new brand ambassador for lululemon as they signed the biggest free agent on the market. This was such a shocker that not even Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport had the scoop.

After the high of this news wore off, Foles agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but that pales in comparison. Foles and lululemon is a much better fit.

Urban Meyer is back in college football

Well, that didn’t take long. Urban Meyer has joined FOX’s college pregame show after retiring this winter. Prepare yourself for a year of rumors about Meyer returning to coaching, especially at USC. I’m already sick of it and wish he’d just go away as he promised us by retiring.

Pizza wars

The question was asked of me: What’s the best place for pizza in Chicago? The answer is there is no easy answer. This is like asking a parent to choose their favorite child (Obviously, it’s always the first-born) but when it comes to picking just one pizza joint, it’s an impossible task because there’s too much goodness to choose from. But I’ve trained for this my entire life and I’ve narrowed the options down to two: Lou Malnati’s and Giordano’s.

Lou’s has an excellent deep dish option and their buttercrust is the stuff I dream about at night. Giordano’s has an equally impressive stuffed pizza with a soft and chewy crust vs. Lou’s that’s more crunchy. Both excellent, it just depends on what you prefer.

The decider for me comes down to Giordano’s thin crust option, which is the best thin crust pizza in the world, and if you disagree, I feel sorry for your taste buds. Their thin crust isn’t thin like New York style thin crust that looks like it’s as thick as loose-leaf paper. Giordano’s thin crust is a good inch thick with a mountain of cheese that’s worth scaling.

It’s a controversial topic but I’m willing to stand up for what’s right. While we may disagree on the best pizza in Chicago, we can all agree it’s better than anything you can get elsewhere.
