Let’s openly ponder 5 players the Cardinals could draft in the first round
3. Nick Bosa
With all due respect to Allen, Bosa is the pass rusher with the highest ceiling in this year’s draft. Injuries during his final season at Ohio State may have hampered his NFL stock a bit, but it would still be a massive surprise to see him drop outside of the top three.
Bosa also has an advantage over Allen with the Cardinals because of the position he plays. Robert Nkemdiche has a ton of talent, but he can’t seem to put it all together in the NFL. Cameron Malveaux is better suited to be a backup. Bosa would be an immediate upgrade over either player in his rookie season.
The only knock on his fit with the Cardinals is that he’s better suited to play as a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme. Bosa isn’t the jumbo end that 3-4 teams typically prefer. Nonetheless, if the Cardinals think he’s the sort of guy who can consistently provide a team double-digit sacks, they’re going to pull the trigger on him.
Bosa is going to hear his name called very early in Round 1. The Cardinals aren’t his best fit at the top of the draft, but they may take him No. 1 overall based on his prodigious talent.
