The Miami Dolphins are in the midst of a rebuild and it will continue to show with their selections in the 2019 NFL Draft.

With the firing of head coach Adam Gase and bringing in new coach Brian Flores, it marked a new day for the Miami Dolphins. Gase, like many before him, had a unique approach to team building that preached culture. Unfortunately that also meant letting many of the best players on the team go. The identity Gase was looking for was a noble one but it just did not pan out for the Dolphins.

Flores, the former defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, will attempt to step in in Gase’s absence. Coming from the “school of Belichick”, Flores will preach culture like Gase. But unlike his predecessor, Flores understands that getting the culture the way he wants it does not mean rid the team of the guys who do not fit. Instead, it is about establishing an identity from the top down.

Miami enters the 2019 NFL Draft in an odd spot. Looking at their roster, there are some gems but overall it is a roster that is lacking talent. There are little expectations for this Dolphins team to win right away. They will opt for a long term view for team building. The Dolphins signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to be their bridge quarterback next season. That signing should not take them out of the quarterback market in this year’s draft, but all signs coming from the team are that they will ride with Fitzpatrick and dip into the 2020 class.

The team also brought in cornerback Eric Rowe in an underrated move. Rowe has familiarity with Flores from his time with the Patriots and gives the Dolphins a solid unit on the back end of their defense. On offense, Fitzpatrick will throw to tight end Dwayne Allen, another former Patriot, and former first-round pick DeVante Parker. Miami opted to bring Parker back on what is an essentially a one-year deal with an option to go to two. Parker will have a chance to rewrite his career which is currently viewed as a bust.

There are plenty of needs for this team, on both sides of the ball. The Dolphins lost some talented players this offseason to free agency and Flores has a tough job ahead. Here is how they can use their draft capital to kick off a rebuild. This mock draft was done using The Draft Network’s mock draft simulator and their predictive board.
