2. It will give him some direction

Baron Corbin has been one of the most important performers on Raw for most of the past wrestling year, but important in this case does not mean “good” or “enjoyable.” Regardless, the point remains, people in power see potential in Corbin, and it’s why he’s on Raw more than Chrisley Knows Best commercials. He’s an impressive athlete, constantly improving on the mic, and can be solid in the ring, but he desperately requires a change and beating Kurt Angle at Mania may be the jumping off point he needs.

Once upon a time, Corbin was “The Lone Wolf,” an imposing, skullet-sporting monster whose squash matches were so fleeting that the NXT crowd used to count aloud during their duration, and be struck with awe if they made it past a minute. His main roster run thus far has left something to be desired for most fans. Despite winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in his debut at WrestleMania 32, and taking home the briefcase in the 2017 Money in the Bank ladder match, he hasn’t seemed to find a home at the top of the card. His transition into an authority figure didn’t seem to resonate with fans much either, as he was often portrayed as corrupt, but impotent and never a real threat.

Who is Corbin right now? He’s not the general manager of Raw anymore, despite still dressing like the finest sommelier at a biker bar, and he’s only the “Lone Wolf” in nomenclature. Defeating a legend like Angle at WrestleMania could get him back on track and help define who Corbin is and where he belongs in the WWE Universe, which is why it’s going to happen.
