WWE 205 Live recap for April 2, 2019: Akira Tozawa vs Mike Kanellis
2. Cedric Alexander confronts Drake Maverick
Drake Maverick is once again spotted backstage in his office. Cedric Alexander approaches Maverick asking why his request for a match with Oney Lorcan was not booked. Maverick calls out Alexander for losing big matches in recent weeks and stated that he needed some time off to recover from the hard-hitting action.
Alexander said he’s ready for the match, but Maverick once again states his case against him competing immediately before claiming the match will come sooner than later. Lorcan is certainly going to have to answer for his attack on Alexander in the upcoming weeks. This may be the biggest non-title storyline that’s about to unfold in the immediate future on 205 Live.
3. WrestleMania foes collide
Tony Nese is interviewed about his WrestleMania 35 title shot against Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy. Nese states there is no pressure on him since everyone expects Murphy to win before reminding us of their brawl at the Performance Center last week. Murphy blindsides Nese as the two cruiserweights start attacking each other in the backstage area.
Murphy and Nese make their way to the stage and are exchanging blows while referees, security guards and backstage employees try to break it up. Fans chant “let them fight,” a good sign of there being interest in the battle, as it is the lead angle of 205 Live.
Murphy accidentally knees a guard when Nese moves out of the way. The segment ends with Nese hitting his own knee to Murphy’s face and standing tall before pointing at the WrestleMania sign.
