The defense of the WWE women’s tag team titles marks another first for the women’s division heading into Wrestlemania 35.

The announcement of the WWE Women’s Championship match headlining WrestleMania 35 has captured everyone’s attention, but this isn’t the only first that the women’s division will be having at the Showcase of the Immortals. On April 7, 2019 in MetLife Stadium, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships will be defended for the first time ever at WrestleMania. Current champions Sasha Banks and Bayley will have their hands full when they put their titles on the line against teams of the past, the present and the future.

The Boss n’ Hug Connection have made it clear they plan to take on all challengers and at WrestleMania they will do just that when they defend their titles in a fatal four-way match. Banks and Bayley know what it’s like to have the odds stacked against them in high-stakes situations. The pair made history after defeating five other teams inside the ominous Elimination Chamber to become the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Banks and Bayley are also coming off a big win in their first successful title defense against Nia Jax and Tamina at Fastlane, giving them added momentum as they head into WrestleMania.

Jax and Tamina will no doubt be looking for a measure of revenge for that loss by taking the titles from Boss n’ Hug. Bonded by blood and ruthlessness, Tamina and Nia have already proven themselves to be one of the most dominant teams in the women’s tag division. Since teaming up, the two powerhouses have shown no mercy when stepping in the ring with any and all challengers. It’s safe to say they’ll stop at nothing to capture the gold on the grandest stage of them all.

But standing in their way will be the formidable duo of Beth Phoenix and Natalya, known as “The Divas of Doom.”  The duo have a rich history together and have been close friends for many years. This came into play on a recent episode of Monday Night Raw when Natalya came to the aid of Phoenix as she was being attacked by Tamina and Jax. On the March 18 episode of Raw, “The Glamazon” announced that she was coming out of retirement to reform “The Divas of Doom” with Natalya to go after The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 35. A win for Natalya would come on the heels of her father, the late Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame just days before.

Then there are the dark horses, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. Since debuting on the main roster The IIconics have been meticulously planning their every move for the very moment that stands before them at WrestleMania. The Australian tandem has known each other since high school, giving them a natural chemistry and extra-strong bond. They’ve been proving their merit every chance they get, and even hold a non-title victory over the current champs. Could this WrestleMania wind up being IIconic?

With four of the top women’s tag teams in the division battling it out for gold, it remains to be seen whether Sasha Banks and Bayley will retain or if another team’s WrestleMania dreams come true on April 7 at MetLife Stadium.
