Welcome to NHL DFS DraftKings Friday Slate Lineup Stack Attack. This article will focus on the best NHL lineup stacks on DraftKings for Friday April 5th.

There are three NHL DFS games to choose from going into tonight. All of them lock at different times (7 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 10 p.m.), but the first game features a Columbus Blue Jackets team with their season on the line.

As such, it’s better to know your lineup sooner rather than later since this is a game you’ll likely wish to target.

As always, I urge you to please check NHL news as close to lock as possible as line combination switches, starting goaltender swaps, healthy scratches, and injuries occur constantly.

I’ve found that the best accounts for NHL news on Twitter are @FantasyLabsNHL and @Rotoworld_HK. I would also recommend looking up individual beat reporters of specific teams in order to see the lines used at practice.

For example, Kristen Shilton (@Kristen_Shilton) tweets out the Toronto Maple Leafs’ lines from practice almost every morning.

Websites such as DailyFaceoff.com and LeftWingLock.com are also great resources for news related to line combos.

I will focus on my favourite line stacks, power play stacks, and value picks. I will also refer to a ‘top-five stack’ which is a team’s top line combined with their number-one defenceman and starting goaltender.

Let’s start with Columbus as they head to MSG to take on the New York Rangers.

Columbus Blue Jackets (45-31-4) @ New York Rangers (31-36-13)

The Blue Jackets caught a break last night as the Montreal Canadiens lost 2-1 to the Washington Capitals. Both Columbus and Montreal have 94 points although the Blue Jackets have two games remaining whereas the Canadiens only have one.

As such, Columbus is in a better position to make the playoffs; however, they still need to win at least one of their remaining games in order to clinch as soon as possible.

Things look good for the Blue Jackets as they’ve gone 6-3-1 over their last 10 games. The Rangers can’t say the same as they’ve managed a 3-7 record over their last 10.

A top-five Columbus stack featuring Cam Atkinson ($7.3K), Matt Duchene ($6.5K), Artemi Panarin ($6.1K), Seth Jones ($5.9K), and Sergei Bobrovsky ($8.2K) is expensive yet convenient as it encompasses 80% of both the first line and the top power play unit.

The Blue Jackets’ second line hasn’t been nearly as good lately; thus, I wouldn’t recommend it as a contrarian money-saving stack. On the other hand, it could end up being a fruitful risk if you’re planning on making multiple lineups. After all, anything can happen in NHL DFS.

Third-line centre Alex Wennberg ($2.9K) hasn’t been very offensively reliable this season, but he’s on the top power play unit and receives good exposure to talented players. He’s an excellent punt play given his price.

Now let’s head to Chi-Town.

Dallas Stars (42-31-7) @ Chicago Blackhawks (35-33-12)

The Stars aren’t nearly as desperate as the Blue Jackets, but they still have something to play for as they are a win away from clinching the first wildcard position.

A top-five Stars stack would begin with two of the three most expensive players on the slate in Alex Radulov ($7.8K) and Tyler Seguin ($7.6K). Luckily, we can get some salary relief by rounding out the line as Jason Dickinson ($3.2K) slots in as the third top-line forward.

Dickinson doesn’t see power play time and isn’t necessarily essential to the top-five stack, but Radulov and Seguin make for an expensive mini-stack so Dickinson’s 5-on-5 exposure at that price certainly doesn’t hurt.

John Klingberg ($5.8K) and super-backup Anton Khudobin ($8K) would round out the stack.

Jamie Benn and Mats Zuccarello have been ruled out of tonight’s action which has opened up some interesting value.

Justin Dowling ($2.5K) and Roope Hintz ($3.8K) are currently set to play on both the second line and the top power play unit. Stacking their line (completed by Tyler Pitlick) doesn’t make much sense, but Dowling and Hintz make for decent value punt plays on their own.

Hintz is especially interesting as he’s picked up a goal and seven points over his last 10 games (including four assists over his last four games).

Now let’s build a preliminary sample lineup.

Remember, this is just a re-creation of what an ideal lineup might look like based on my opinion. This is not a surefire NHL DraftKings winner and should not be directly used as your lineup.

Once again, I urge you to please check NHL news as close to lock as possible as line combination switches, starting goaltender swaps, healthy scratches, and injuries occur constantly.

It’s not nearly as bad as basketball but you should still be on your toes. Good luck tonight!
