Tommy Dreamer

So many of the old ECW names could be potential Hall of Famers. But no one epitomized the company the way Tommy Dream did.

It’s crazy to think that Dreamer got his start as a pretty boy, but ECW fans got a taste of what he was made of early in his feud with The Sandman. Perhaps made famous by the 10 lashes he received (and then asking for more) following a loss in a Singapore Cane Match, Dreamer had the crowd with him while he engaged in some of the best programs in company history. There was, obviously, the feud that lasted nearly two years with Raven and then the crossover feud with Jerry “The King” Lawler when ECW “invaded” WWE. Over the next few years, he mixed it up with ECW’s best, including an ECW Heavyweight Championship win over Taz (even if his title reign did only last half an hour).

As far as the actual “Invasion” angle that took place years later, Dreamer played a huge part as a member of The Alliance, which featured stars from WCW and ECW. He was still one of the biggest names to join WWE, and to the surprise of nobody became mostly involved with the Hardcore Championship picture, racking up 14 title reigns. Dreamer was actually the last man to hold the title before it was unified with the Intercontinental Championship in a match with fellow ECW alum Rob Van Dam in August 2002.

Dreamer was also a big part of the ECW relaunch in the mid-2000s, beginning with the One Night Stand pay-per-views and, later, the weekly show. In 2009, Dreamer made history by becoming the only man to win the original ECW version of the Heavyweight Championship and the WWE version when he defeated Christian and Jack Swagger in a triple threat match. There are few people in the world who love the pro wrestling business more than Dreamer, and his inclusion into the WWE Hall of Fame needs to happen.
