Round 1 – Pick 2

Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

There is no bigger beneficiary from the Arizona Cardinals falling in love with quarterback Kyler Murray than the San Francisco 49ers. For a while it looked like the 49ers late season win over the Seattle Seahawks basically cost them the chance at getting the draft’s best player and a much needed defensive end in Ohio State’s Nick Bosa. Instead the Cardinals are inexplicably concerned about making splashes than smart picks and look locked in on Murray. That leaves the 49ers with a full board in front of them and the best player awaiting.

Bosa is the best player in this draft, and that needs to be reiterated. He is along the lines of Khalil Mack, Von Miller, Myles Garrett level players. He can come in from day one and provide a quarterback hunting, every down playing defensive end. His technique and athleticism blend to forma  wrecking ball of the edge for any offense. Despite missing his final games in college with an injury, Bosa is ready to tear up the league next season.

San Francisco still has a need at the defensive end position even after the acquisition of Dee Ford. In fact, breaking down Ford’s new contract and he can be looked at as a short term rental that the team can get out of after the first year or two. As it stands Ford and Bosa would give the 49ers two players capable of ten-plus sacks every season. They would pair with former three former first round picks in Solomon Thomas, DeForest Buckner and Arik Armstead. That defensive line rotation would be a nightmare for opposing offenses.

In the NFC West with Russell Wilson and the potent Rams offense, having a defensive front that can dominate is incredibly important.
