WrestleMania 35 results: Mella is money, wins Women’s Battle Royal
Not many people would have predicted for Carmella to win the Women’s Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 35, but her victory primes her for a WWE push.
Carmella isn’t the winner that a lot of WWE fans would have wanted heading into the Women’s Battle Royal, but it’s the one they’ve got. The company could have gone the conventional route by handing the victory to someone like Asuka or Mandy Rose, but instead, it looks like Carmella is poised for a push in the coming months.
It’s safe to say she won’t be booked as a face for that run. Instead of dominating the match from start to finish, Carmella hid until Sarah Logan was the only woman left. The member of the Riott Squad was celebrating as if she’d won the historic match, but Carmella came back into the ring and ultimately eliminated her.
Don’t be surprised if Carmella and Logan engage in a mid-card feud coming out of WrestleMania. Fans are squarely focused on what sort of story lines will come out of the main event pitting Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch against one another, but the WWE needs more individual battles between other women to come out of this event as well.
The Riott Squad chasing Carmella around could make for an interesting story. The Long Island Princess has been criticized for her lack of wrestling ability in the ring, but no one can complain about her ability to generate heat on the microphone. Logan and company should be able to carry the feud in the ring. It’s a matchup with interesting possibilities, especially with the next Superstar Shakeup set for next week.
One disappointment coming out of the match is that it seems like the WWE still doesn’t have any important plans for Asuka. Logan eliminated her from the match, but it seemed more like a random occurrence than any sort of meaningful conflict. There’s a lot of work to be done to get the Empress of Tomorrow back on track.
Even so, fans of the Women’s Divisions should be excited to see where things with Carmella go in the future. Her win should set up her for some quality screen time over the next few months.
