The Oklahoma Sooners will play their 2019 spring game on Friday, April 12 in Norman, Oklahoma, and here’s the info on how you can watch.

The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t even played their 2019 spring game yet, but there’s already been a development. There is some expected bad weather and near-freezing temperatures expected to move through the area this weekend, so University of Oklahoma officials have bumped the game up to Friday night.

Concerns about mother nature aside, this will be your first look at a new-look OU offense. Quarterback Kyler Murray has opted to go fishing in the NFL Draft waters, leaving the door wide open for Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts to compete for the starting job. After losing his job in Tuscaloosa to Tua Tagovailoa over a year ago, Hurts has a goal of getting the Sooners back to National Championship contention.

Unless he has completely forgotten how to lead from under center, Hurts should be the lock to for the starting quarterback job. The spotlight is all over him, and soon we’ll find out what he can add to the trophy case. Granted, there is a universal difference between the SEC and the Big 12. We’ll see how well the former offensive player of the year can adapt to a new life in Oklahoma.

Eventually working with Hurts will be returning center Creed Humphrey. An offseason surgery currently has him sidelined, and he won’t be fully cleared until around mid-August. His situation is just hampering an already rebuilding offensive line, as several starters from last year have since departed. Humphrey is the only returning player on the offensive line. It will be interesting to see how well this new-look offense can hold up against conference rivals such as Texas and Oklahoma State.

Defensively, they look to rebound under first-year coordinator Alex Grinch. A year ago, the Sooners failed to rank anywhere within arms reach of the top 25 teams in the country in several categories. Getting back on track is the main priority for a team that allowed at least 40 points in four of their final seven 2018 games. That includes a 45-42 loss to Texas that resulted in the dismissal of Mike Stoops and another 45-point gift to Alabama in the College Football Playoff.

The Sooners will see essentially all of their defensive starters from last year back in action this season. It will be interesting to see how they rebound after last year, and what changes Grinch will have to make to turn things around on that side of the ball.

This is going to be an interesting season for head coach Lincoln Riley. The biggest question mark for his team this year is undoubtedly the defense. But if they can get on track, and not be used as a doormat by their opponents, then 2019 could be a spectacular year for the boys in Norman.
