If you bet on Tiger Woods to win at The Masters, you probably feel really good. If you’re this guy, you just had a life-changing experience.

Beginner’s luck? For one bettor, absolutely.

At Las Vegas’ William Hill U.S. Sportsbook, an anonymous man gambled $85,000 on Tiger Woods to win the 2019 Masters Tournament. On Sunday, when Woods raised his fist in the air celebrating his first majors win in 11 years, that guy must have done the same and then some.

His wager, the first recorded on the Sportsbook by this gentleman, paid out $1.19 million. Suffice to say, drinks are on him tonight.

By the time the golfers were teeing off on Thursday morning, Woods was one of the favorites at 12/1. Most books had Rory McIlroy as the man to beat, alongside other well-known names such as Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and others.

Woods’ victory is his 15th in a major, putting him three behind Jack Nicolaus for the all-time record. It’s also the first time he won the Masters since 2005, giving him a 14-year span between victories at Augusta, the longest such distance.

For all the Vegas books, this is a tough loss. However, there’s a damn good bet to be made that they won’t make the same mistake for the next major. Woods will be the favorite, and deservedly so.
