2019 NFL Draft: 5 players Eagles could take in Round 1

The Eagles want to get back to the Super Bowl next year. To do that, they really need to find an impact player in the first round of this year’s draft.

Nick Foles wasn’t able to replicate his playoff magic for the Eagles last season, and now he’s taken his talents to Jacksonville. That means Philadelphia is completely Carson Wentz’s team in 2019. The team needs to keep him healthy for an entire season if they want to win another Super Bowl.

That might tempt Philadelphia’s front office to draft an offensive lineman with the No. 25 pick. Unfortunately for Howie Roseman and the rest of the team’s front office, there are other high-profile holes to fill on the roster. It’s hard to imagine the Eagles coming out of this draft without an immediate starter at cornerback. It would be easy to justify spending their first round pick on the secondary as well.

The upside for the Eagles is that they have two second round picks to work with in this year’s draft. That means they can lean a little more towards selecting the best player available with their first rounder. Here are five players that could easily become the Eagles’ first pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

5. Byron Murphy

It’s very likely that Murphy will be off the board by the time Philadelphia goes on the clock, but it’s not impossible he will fall all the way down to No. 25. If he does, the Eagles should snap him up without a second thought.

Murphy’s ability to force turnovers distinguishes him from some other defensive backs in this year’s class. He racked up four interceptions for Washington during his final collegiate season despite the fact that opposing offenses avoided throwing to his side of the field. Murphy isn’t the fastest defensive back in the class, but he makes up for it with intelligence and fluidity. He’d be a great pick up for Philadelphia.
