2. Redmond scores to help Southampton past Newcastle

Newcastle and Southampton have both have had arduous Premier League seasons and they probably can’t wait for it to end. It’s unlikely either of these sides will go down now but neither are mathematically safe from the drop.

That means that this game could be a very boring affair with both sides quite happy to settle for a point. However, the temptation of three points (that would almost guarantee safety) could be enough for one of these sides to go for it.

If any team is going to go for it Southampton seem like the more likely candidates. Under the guidance of Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Saints have become a much more potent attacking force but they still look dodgy defensively.

Newcastle have a much more refrained approach to the game and it seems more likely that the Toon will take a “let’s not lose” approach to this match. Rafa Benitez’s side have been strong defensively and with Salomon Rondon up-front they can afford to play like this and hope the big Venezuelan striker will hold up the play for them at the attacking end of the pitch.

One player who normally stands out for Southampton is Nathan Redmond. Redmond has always looked like a good player for the Saints but it seems like Ralph Hasenhuttl could be getting a little bit more out of the Englishman.

The pacey wide-player bagged a double in Southampton’s last match against Wolves and he’ll fancy his chances of grabbing another goal this weekend. If he doesn’t score then there’s a good chance Redmond will be at the heart of anything good that Southampton do going forward.

Southampton will take the lead but they’ll be pegged back by Newcastle as both sides desperately try and avoid defeat. Southampton will take all three points though after Nathan Redmond scores a late winner.
