1. Jeffery Simmons

Before Simmons tore his ACL he was headed towards becoming a top 15 pick in this year’s draft. Unfortunately for the former Mississippi State star, he got hurt at the wrong time.

Some teams also downgrade Simmons slightly due to some off the field issues from his past. Add it all together and he’s a guy who will still likely hear his named called late on Day One. There are significant whispers that teams quite a bit higher than the Chiefs have their eyes on Simmons.

Still, drafting a player who might not help you much in 2019 in the first round is difficult for most teams. It’s a luxury the Chiefs can afford given how much talent they have on their roster. It’s not ideal for a defense that needs some instant help, but Simmons’ Pro Bowl upside makes him worth the sacrifice all the way down at the bottom of the round.

On the field there are zero questions about Simmons ability to play the game. He’s a disruptive force against both the run and pass. One of his best qualities is his red-hot motor. Simmons is a guy who plays the game 100 miles per hour at all times.

That motor and talent make him a great project for the Chiefs in round 1. Don’t be surprised to see him moving from Starkville to Kansas City this season.
