Could Dwayne Haskins be drafted before Kyler Murray?
With buzz building about a team possibly trading up for Dwayne Haskins, could the former Ohio State signal caller be drafted before Kyler Murray?
Kyler Murray is still the presumptive first overall pick when the Arizona Cardinals go on the clock Thursday night, but there’s increasing buzz the Cardinals will go another direction. The Washington Redskins are in the market for a quarterback with their first-round pick, currently 15th overall, and they’re reportedly interested in Dwayne Haskins.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Redskins are not involved in the trade market for Josh Rosen and Haskins is their top draft target. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports has indicated a few times that the Redskins like Haskins, with the recent addition of the New York Jets and the No. 3 overall pick as a trade partner if Washington is compelled to move up and get their guy.
The Oakland Raiders at No. 4 overall could draft a quarterback and may like Haskins, so maybe they take him. A little further down, the Denver Broncos (No. 10), Cincinnati Bengals (No. 11) and Miami Dolphins (No. 13) could take a quarterback and will go on the clock before the Redskins right now.
If the Redskins go against what vice president Doug Williams said and trade up to get a quarterback, they might as well go all the way and get above anyone else who may want Haskins if he’s the one they want. That means getting in front of the Raiders, so a deal with the Jets at No. 3 makes sense.
If the Cardinals don’t take Murray No. 1, there’s a possibility he falls. The Raiders could stop that fall rather quickly, and the New York Giants at No. 6 have to be considering a quarterback. The Giants and No. 6 have been an easy spot to place Haskins in mock drafts, though they could address another position and circle back to a quarterback with their second first-round pick (No. 17).
On the remote chance Murray isn’t drafted first overall and drops a few picks, and as Haskins seems to be rising a bit, it’s an open question who the first quarterback drafted this year will be.
If the Redskins make an aggressive move up, Haskins might trump Murray at the 11th hour Thursday night.
