5 teams that won the 2019 NFL Draft
Arizona Cardinals
Nobody was surprised when the Arizona Cardinals made Kyler Murray the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and while they should have been much more proactive with shopping Josh Rosen, the No. 62 overall pick ended up being reasonable compensation for a backup quarterback everybody knew was getting traded at that point.
In Murray, the Cardinals have a legitimate franchise-altering player. Rosen could still be an effective starter in the NFL, but Murray is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and can work magic with the ball in his hands.
The Cardinals should also be praised for the other moves they made during the draft. Cornerback Byron Murphy is an immediate impact player, and he could even start across from Robert Alford if the Patrick Peterson trade rumors somehow come to fruition. Steve Keim also did a wonderful job of stealing Deionte Thompson in the fifth round, as Thompson is a potential future standout at free safety, size concerns and all.
Finally, the Cardinals No. 1 priority after drafting Murray was to provide him with sufficient weaponry. Hakeem Butler just might be the best receiver in the class despite only being a third-round pick, and Andy Isabella makes up for his size concerns with insane speed and college production.
The Cardinals have quite the collection of up-and-coming talent around Larry Fitzgerald in Butler, Isabella, and Christian Kirk. To hedge their bets even more, they also drafted Keesean Johnson in the sixth; Johnson has massive upside as a deep threat in the Cardinals high-powered offense after being one of college football’s most explosive playmakers.
