Jamaal Charles getting a final handoff from Patrick Mahomes is everything (Video)

Jamaal Charles had a stellar career for the Kansas City Chiefs, so it’s only fitting that his final handoff came from the man who is taking the organization to new heights.

One of the most efficient running backs in NFL history, Jamaal Charles rewrote the record books in 2010 when he needed just 230 carries to rumble for 1,467 yards. That gave Charles an astounding average of 6.4 yards per carry, one year after he averaged 5.9 yards per carry in his second season in the NFL.

Charles signed a one-day contract on Tuesday to officially retire with the Kansas City Chiefs, bringing his 11-year career to a close. Though Charles recently worked out for the Baltimore Ravens and carried the rock for both the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017 and 2018, he is a Chief through and through.

For years, Charles was a true superstar for the Chiefs organization, leading the team to the playoffs alongside either Matt Cassel or Alex Smith at quarterback. And while he never got to take hand-offs (or catch passes) from Patrick Mahomes, it’s only fitting that his final hand-off came from the quarterback who is set to take the Chiefs to new heights.

Mahomes was one play away from taking the Chiefs to the Super Bowl in his first season as an NFL starter, and he’s redefined greatness at the quarterback position. This hand-off was a sweet moment for two Chiefs icons, made all the more sweeter by Charles’ taste in fashion.

Out of qualified players, Charles has the fourth-highest yards per carry average in NFL history at 5.4, and the two-time First-Team All-Pro running back is 56th in league history. Though he likely won’t make the Hall of Fame despite his historically great efficiency, Charles was untouchable in his peak years and was well-regarded by the fans, being a four-time Pro Bowler.
