16. Boston Red Sox, 13-17, 4th in the AL East (ranked 19th last week)

The Red Sox may be starting to turn the corner offensively, winning 6 of their last 10 games, as it only seemed like a matter of time until a group this talented started to find their way back towards the top of the AL Central. However, they currently sit 7 games back in the division and are still struggling on the mound, only holding their opponent to 4 runs or fewer in 7 of their 29 games played. The entire group has had suspect control, leading to a lot of walks and a lot of home runs, and while the offense has started driving in runs they can’t be expected to score 6 runs a night to win games. Red Sox are showing signs of life after a free-fall through the first month of baseball, but their starters have to start pitching like the former Cy-Young winning, All-Star caliber players they are.

15. Texas Rangers, 14-14, 3rd in the AL West (ranked 15th last week)

The Rangers are difficult team to define, while they’ve only managed to win 4 of their last 10 games, they’ve scored 33 runs in their last three games alone. But they’ve also had games where they’ve imploded and allowed double-digit runs in 3 of their last 10 games. Ultimately, Texas’ pitching isn’t anywhere close to where it needs to be to even come close to matching the Astros in the AL West. But they truly are one of the few teams in baseball you can never count out of a game with their ability to smash themselves back into baseball games.
