In preparation for watching (and/or betting on) the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby, here is a list of the horses who will be running.

Last year, Justify won the Kentucky Derby and went on to become the second Triple Crown winner in the last four years after nearly 40 years without one. The 145th running of the Kentucky Derby is coming this Saturday, May 4, and the notable news over the last 24 hours has been regarding horses who won’t be participating.

The betting favorite, Omaha Beach, was diagnosed with an entrapped epiglottis (swollen tissue in the throat that limits breathing passages) on Wednesday night. He had surgery right away on Thursday, but will be out of training for 2-3 weeks and thus will not take his Derby post on Saturday.

On Thursday morning, Haikal (30-1 odds) did not train as he deals with an abscess in his left front hoof. As of the latest update, the horse is questionable for Saturday’s race.

So, assuming Haikal joins Omaha Beach as a scratch, what horses are left in the 2019 Kentucky Derby field?

Here’s a full list of horses currently in line to run this year’s Kentucky Derby, in order of their originally listed post position. Haikal and Omaha Beach are/were in post positions No. 11 and 12 respectively.

Post time Saturday night for the 2019 Kentucky Derby is around 6:50 ET, from Churchill Downs in Louisville. Kentucky. There’s a significant chance of rain in the forecast, so it looks like it’ll be a wet, muddy race, just like last year’s.
