Welcome to NASCAR DFS Pit Stop for the Gander Outdoors Truck Series. The truck series is FINALLY back! After taking off the entire month of April, the trucks are back on the truck Friday night at The Monster Mile, Dover International Speedway. This weekend in Dover we have a couple of Xfinity Series invaders in Brandon Jones (driving the #51 for KBM) and Ryan Sieg ( in the #33 Reaume Brothers Racing Chevy).

Just a little refresher about the series since it’s been away for so long. Stewart Friesen comes into Dover leading the point standings after five races in a season that has seen only one series regular win, Austin Hill at Daytona to open the season. The other 4 races this season have gone to Kyle Busch, who will thankfully not be competing Friday. Busch’s absence provides an opportunity for some series regulars to have a chance at a win Friday, including a favorite from inside Kyle Busch Motorsports, Harrison Burton. The young driver is hoping his past Dover experience in both the K&N Pro Series East and the Gander Trucks will be beneficial on Friday. Others like Johnny Sauter, Brett Moffitt, and Steward Friesen all have fast trucks and will look to capture their first win of the season as well.

Also as personal side note, Dover gives out the best trophy in Motorsports to the winners this week, a giant stone Monster. This weekend they are extra special as Dover celebrates 50 years, they will go away from the traditional stone trophy in favor of a gold metallic Monster!

NASCAR DFS – Leaders of the Pack

Johnny  Sauter ($11,800) is the heavy favorite coming into this race as the winner of the last 2 races here at Dover, and also running the fastest time in final practice on Thursday. He is the BEST high-priced option, but I will list a few other options you can use to pivot off, especially in GPP’s with Sauter probably being the chalk option.

Brett Moffitt ($11,400)

Avg 2019 Finish: 10.8

Moffitt is having an up and down season thus far 5 races in. He has 3 top 5’s ( a 2nd,3rd, and a 4th) and also 2 poor finishes (a 19th and 26th place ), and his one career race at Dover, Moffitt finished 12th in this same race last season. Moffitt had the second best speed in final practice on Thursday, with his fastest lap coming on his second to last lap of the session showing he looks to pick up speed on the long runs.

Stewart Friesen ($10,500)

Avg 2019 Finish: 7.8

As mentioned in the open Friesen comes in as the point leader and will look to retain his lead, and lock up a spot in the playoffs with a win at Dover Friday. Friesen would finish 23rd last season here at Dover after a lap 3 crash ruined his day early, but he had a fast truck and qualified 7th and looks like he has a similarly fast truck this weekend. After final practice on Thursday , Friesen sat as the third fastest truck, and like Moffitt also looks good on the long runs. Friesen comes in with 3 straight top 5’s and 4 top 10 on the season.

Ross Chastain ($9,900)

Avg 2019 Finish: 6th

Not much to tell you about Chastain except this man can drive! He has a full-time ride in all THREE of the top series for NASCAR and does well in all three. Chastain is the ONLY driver in the Truck series to have a top 10 finish in all 5 races this season and will most likely find himself there again on Friday. At his price and his average of 54.3 DKFP per race he is almost a must play at Dover.

Other options: Matt Crafton ($10,900), Ben Rhodes ($10,200)

NASCAR DFS – Middle of the Pack

Brandon Jones ($8,900)

Avg 2019 Finish: N/A

Jones, and Xfinity Series regular, will take over the #51 Toyota for KBM that is usually driven by the KB in KBM, Kyle Busch. Jones did not have a good run in final practice, but this truck is fast, we know that from when Busch drives it, now of course Kyle is a more veteran and better driver, but Jones is a highly skilled driver and most likely get this car into the top 10. I am not sure about rostering Jones until qualifying on Friday afternoon.

Sheldon Creed ($7,900)

Avg 2019 Finish: 14.8

Sheldon Creed’s #2 Chevrolet looks very fast this weekend sitting 12th after 1st practice, and then coming up with a top 10 fast truck (9th) in final practice. The one issue I have with Creed is he generally qualifies really high up in the field, but can’t finish as high. Creed only has 1 top 10 this year, but he has a truck that SHOULD finish inside the top 10 on Friday.

Gus Dean ($7,700)

Avg 2019 Finish: 22.6

Dean has a top 20 car, and should get you some good positive place differential. On average this season, Dean qualifies 20.8, and has qualified 22 or worse in 3 of the last 4 race. If we can get a 25+ starting spot for the #12 on Friday I love this play for salary relief to get an extra top driver in. Don’t force it because I do like a bunch of low-priced drivers on Friday as well.

NASCAR DFS – Back of the Pack

Jesse Little ($7,300)

Avg 2019 Finish: 18.3

Little had a top 5 fast truck in final practice on Thursday, and if he can come remotely close to that in the race he could be well worth his price. In his 3 races this season Little has an average qualifying position of 20th, with how fast his truck looked, Little has the potential to be the best play on the slate.

Tyler Ankrum ($6,800)

Avg 2019 Finish: 12.5

Ankrum has only run two races in the Truck Series this season but has 2 top 20 finishes, his last race being a 6th place finish in Texas. This is another spot where we have a fast car at a low salary, Ankrum finished with the 11th fastest speed on Thursday. I am hoping we get a 15+ qualifying spot for Ankrum which make me more comfortable rostering him.

Natalie Decker ($6,400)

Avg 2019 Finish: 23rd

Decker is a price play for me tonight as well. She doesn’t have the fastest truck, only coming in with the 22nd best practice lap, but she is an inexpensive play. Also, she has improved her finishing place in every race she’s been in this year, so there is some belief she is beginning to figure it out as the season progresses.

Raphael Lessard ($6,200)

Avg 2019 Finish: 14th

You might be noticing a trend, I am not big on the middle trucks for Friday, but I do have a lot of trucks that are cheap and could produce some big points for you. I want to roster as many high-priced drivers on Friday and someone like Lessard is a key driver in my build for Dover. He has one of the fastest trucks in the field finishing atop the leaderboard in first practice, and 6th in final practice.
