DFS MLB – Love, Like, Leave – 5/5
Love, Like, Leave is a DFS segment that breaks down the slate into three main options at each position; a “love”, a “like”, and a “leave”. The love is my favorite play, the like is another good play, and the leave is one I would rather not have in my lineup.
Welcome back to another edition of DFS MLB Love, Like, Leave. If this is your first time joining me, welcome. If you are a returning reader, thank you for your support. Speaking of returning readers, I hope you guys read yesterdays article. If you did, and you took my advice, you may have been on takedown watch. We got absolutely monster games from Chavis and Machado, to go along with homers from Senzel and Alonso. We also nailed Tanner Roark, while Bassitt delivered a respectable performance. The only plays I missed on were the Tampa bats, and Tim Anderson.
What’s more, the Coors fade was a brilliant idea. The Rockies only managed to put up 2 runs, and my nemesis, Ketel Marte, didn’t do much of anything. This was by far the best episode of Love, Like, Leave yet, and that’s hopefully a sign of great things to come. I hope you all join me for the ride.
I didn’t make a home run call yesterday, which is unfortunate, because I had a total of 6 home runs hit by my recommended batters. That leaves my record at a very unfortunate 0-3. Look for me to bounce back in the coming days.
Without further adieu, let’s jump into the first Sunday edition of DFS MLB Love, Like, Leave!
One quick note: it’s currently 2 AM and I’m fresh off the heels of seeing Avengers; Endgame, so I’m a little bit worn out. Today’s article may be slightly shorter due to this. I hope you guys can understand that. Also, go see Endgame if you haven’t already, it’s fantastic!

Starting Pitcher
Love
Julio Teheran (9,000 DK): Teheran has been far from great this year, having produced a sub par 5.35 ERA. His WHIP of 1.45 leaves something to be desired, but it also isn’t horrible. This Miami offense just sucks, and Teheran still shows flashes of what made him an intriguing prospect. I like Teheran as the top scoring pitcher on tonight’s slate.
Like
Frankie Montas (8,400 DK): Fresh off of recommending Chris Bassitt, I’m going to continue looking at Oakland pitchers against Pittsburgh. Bassitt gave up 3 runs in 5 innings, which isn’t amazing, but he also struck out 6. I think Montas has a fine game in a good spot today.
Leave
Rick Porcello (9,300 DK): Boston pitchers continue to prove me wrong, and the Chicago bats look very much asleep, but I’m going back to the well today. Porcello has been much better over his last three starts, but still carries an inflated ERA of 5.52. I don’t think he gets lit up, but I don’t think he does enough to justify the price tag. What is it Einstein said about insanity again?

First Baseman
Love
Rhys Hoskins (5,400 DK(: Hoskins contributed a walk and an RBI double yesterday, and smashed a homer the day before. When he’s seeing the ball, there aren’t many better bats out there, and his power profile is as elite as they come. I love Hoskins to hit another homer today. HOME RUN
Like
Jesus Aguilar (3,900 DK): Aguilar has been… let’s say disappointing. He may have turned it around this week, smashing his first three homers of the season. He gets a very soft matchup against Jason Vargas, and I love his upside at this price. Aguilar is a guy who can hit two homers on any given night, as he showcased earlier this week.
Leave
Pete Alonso (5,000 DK): So far, I’m two for two on Pete Alonso calls. When I suggested him, he went yard, and when I suggested someone else, he didn’t. Hopefully, that trend continues today. Zach Davies is a middling pitcher, so this isn’t the worst matchup for Alonso, but if I’m spending up tonight, it’s going to be for Freeman (5,000), or Hoskins.

DFS MLB – Love, Like, Leave – 5/5
Second Baseman
Love
Ozzie Albies (5,000 DK): Albies continues to show that the end of last season was an abnormality and not his norm. He’s been a production machine out of the leadoff spot this season and continues to hit for power, including 5 homers in his last 11 games. That’s production you can’t look away from.
Like
Robinson Cano (4,000 DK): Cano may be the most unlucky player of 2019 so far. He’s been hitting the ball hard and striking out only a little, but has been rewarded with a .248 average and a .695 OPS. The ball is going to start falling into play for Cano and when it does I’m going to be there.
Leave
Brandon Lowe: This is more about where Lowe is priced than what Lowe may produce. I don’t think he carries the upside that Albies does today, and he’s priced slightly higher. For that reason, and that reason alone, Lowe is staying on the bench today.

Shortstop
Love
Adalberto Mondesi (5,100 DK): After going through a mini-slump, Mondesi got back on track on Saturday, reaching base 4 times, including a double and a triple. He contains nearly unrivaled speed, and when he gets on base, he is a perpetual steal threat. I think he snags a bag today.
Like
Jean Segura (4,900 DK): One day later, and Jean Segura is still on fire. He’s been as good as anybody in baseball over the last two weeks. He contributed three more hits yesterday, so needless to say he’s doing pretty well. Rinse and repeat with Segura today.
Leave
Anybody else: There are a few other good plays today, such as Lindor (4,700) or Willy Adames (3,700), but unless you need the salary relief, I’d spend up for one of those two bats. There isn’t anything wrong with spending down, but I think the top scoring shortstop will be one of those two. As always, I’m ready to be proved wrong.

DFS MLB – Love, Like, Leave – 5/5
Third Baseman
Love
Hernan Perez (3,900 DK): If you’re going to spend up at shortstop today, you’re going to need some salary relief elsewhere. Enter, Hernan Perez. Perez is a specialist against lefties, and Vargas isn’t even a very good lefty. Perez has great upside today for someone priced under 4,000, and he may be my overall favorite 3B on the slate.
Like
Yandy Diaz (4,900 DK): Tampa Bay bats, Baltimore pitching. If you’ve read one of my articles already, you’ve heard this story before. Even though they got shut-out yesterday, this Tampa offense is very good, and this Baltimore pitching staff is very bad. Go ahead and roster multiple Tampa bats with confidence.
Leave
Michael Chavis (4,700 DK: Chavis had the monster game of all monster games yesterday, so some regression to the mean seems like it’s in order. Baseball players sometimes stay hot, but it will be nearly impossible to replicate anything close to yesterday. Best to steer clear of Chavis today.

DFS MLB – Love, Like, Leave – 5/5
Outfielders
Love
Lorenzo Cain (4,600 DK): Cain is going to finish off my Brewers triple stack of advice today. I have a feeling their bats explode, and Cain will lead the charge like he always does from his leadoff position. Something about this game screams blowout to me.

Bryce Harper (4,800 DK): Another player who is part of a stack’s worth of advice, Harper gets a great matchup against his old team. I’m all over the revenge narrative, and I think Harper takes Sanchez for a ride today. I’m once again calling for two players to go yard from the same team. it didn’t work out well last time, but today, that’s going to change. HOME RUN
Leave
Mitch Haniger (4,900 DK): Wow, I really do sound like a broken record today. Somehow, many of my picks from yesterday and finding their way back today. I was right on Haniger once, and I think I’m going to be right on him again. Keep sitting Haniger until he begins to see the ball well again. Don’t worry, it won’t be too long, just another game.
