Huddersfield face Manchester United at John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday, May 5. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Manchester United are in a fight for their lives for the final Champions League spot next year, and they currently sit in sixth place behind Chelsea and Arsenal, respectively, heading into Matchday 37. Awaiting them is the league’s worst team in Huddersfield, owners of a measly 14 points in the Premier League.
After losing 4-0 to Everton, falling 2-0 to rivals Manchester City in critical game, and drawing to Champions League favorites Chelsea, the onus is on Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side to snap out of their poor run of form. They have managed just four points in their last five Premier League games, collapsing at the finish line with plenty to play for.
Huddersfield is a “get right” matchup for Manchester United, and Liverpool had no trouble dispatching them 5-0 on Matchday 36. With a makeshift defense, David de Gea severely underperforming, and goals hard to come by, United cannot afford to rest easy, even against a team with a remarkably awful goal differential of -54. United are just three points behind Chelsea with the easiest remaining schedule – they will face Cardiff on Matchday 38 – so if they take care of business, the Champions League still isn’t out of reach.
As for Huddersfield, they have nothing to play for but pride. Behind 19th-place Fulham by 12 points and in the relegation hole by a whopping 21 points, they have quite clearly been the Premier League’s worst side this year. Bereft of a single player with five goals or assists this campaign, Huddersfield will need a miracle in front of their home fans to get a point from United, as disappointing as The Red Devils have been of late.
Paul Pogba, as always, is the man to watch for United, and there are statistics for him to grab this week. He currently leads the team with 13 goals and nine assists, so he could very well finish the season with 25 combined goals and assists.
