Giannis Antetokounmpo dominates Celtics and 6 other things you missed on Monday
Giannis Antetokounmpo does Greek Freak things, Kevin Durant & Steph Curry fail to launch, Gabriel Landeskog delivers in OT, and other things you may have missed on Monday night.
1. Giannis Antetokounmpo cares not for the Celtics pre-season hype
At the beginning of the season, everyone thought the Boston Celtics would walk through the East and into the Finals. Giannis Antetokounmpo decided to be a one-man wrecking crew and now the Celtics are on the brink of going home. Giannis finished with 39 points and 16 rebounds to help the Bucks take a commanding 3-1 series lead against the Celtics.
2. The other Boston team does better
Things went much better for the other team in Boston as the Bruins knocked off the Columbus Blue Jackets to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bruins iced the game with two goals in the third period, including one that Sergei Bobrovsky certainly wants back.
3. The White Sox do not rest
Earlier in the day, Cleveland Indians Trevor Bauer tweeted to Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, “I’m all in on the bat flips man but if you could skip a day today that would be great. Even the lord took a day of rest.”
Anderson did not take a day of rest. He chased Bauer with a two-run single in the sixth. But it was James McCann who delivered the long bomb.
4. Chris Paul drops a dime on his birthday
On his 34th birthday, Chris Paul helped the Rockets even the series against the series. Paul finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.
5. Steph & KD get nothing to drop on a regular day
But the real story will be these missed threes by Durant and Curry. It’s not often Durant and Curry will miss these shots. Unless it’s a close game in the playoffs. Had the Warriors been up 3-0 in the series and up 2 instead of down 3, both of those shots go down.
6. Gabriel Landeskog forces Game 7
Gabriel Landeskog did the dirty work to help force a Game 7 for the Colorado Avalanche. I’d write a lot more about this goal, but I’m a Colorado Avalanche fan and don’t want to be accused of being bias. So, I’ll just say that Gabriel Landeskog will probably go down as the greatest captain of all-time, Nathan MacKinnon will be remembered alongside Wayne Gretzky, and Cale Makar will pass both of them.
No bias.
7. Nick Senzel builds Hall of Fame resume
Nick Senzel is already paying huge dividends for the Cincinnati Reds. The rookie was moved to the lead-off spot on Monday afternoon and delivered with two home runs in a 12-4 victory. As a Reds fan, let me just say that I welcome the new greatest hitters in baseball history. At least this one will get into the Hall of Fame.
I picked a good day to do these highlights.
