New York Yankees: The Roll Call

When it comes to Major League Baseball, perhaps the most famous of all franchises is the one that resides in the Bronx. The New York Yankees not only have the most World Series victories, winning an incredible 27 rings during their franchise history, but also have some of the more iconic players in the history of the game.

In addition, the Yankees play their games at the aptly-named Yankee Stadium, which is considered by many to be the most iconic in baseball. The team has moved into a newly-built Yankee Stadium in recent years, but they have brought a lot of the old rituals across the street, passing down the traditions to new generations of Yankee fans.

A trip to Yankee Stadium comes with some of the more passionate fans in all of professional sports. In one specific area of the stadium, the bleachers, the fans affectionately known as the “Bleacher Creatures” begin every game by calling out the names of the starters for the Yankees, something they call the “Roll Call.”

Over the years, this has become something that has had a real affect on the players, including Derek Jeter, Aaron Judge and Brett Gardner. Players will tip their caps to the bleachers, and those who play right field, directly in front of this collection of fans, become legends in the eyes of the “Creatures.”
