For only the third consecutive year, the women of the WWE are set to make an impact in their Money in the Bank ladder match.

On the heels of the WWE Superstar Shake-Up the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match is set with four Superstars from both SmackDown Live and Monday Night Raw ready to compete. Bayley, Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose are the only Superstars who have never competed in the ladder match before. The rest — Bayley, Ember Moon, Natalya, Carmella and Alexa Bliss — are familiar to the carnage that comes from falling off, and sometimes onto, the steel ladders.

Carmella won the inaugural women’s Money in the Bank and Bliss took the win in 2018. Will there be a repeat victory or is another blonde set to snatch the briefcase? In recent weeks, Brooke has started to gain momentum while Rose was at one time being groomed for a strong singles run. The veteran Natalya could shock everyone and gain the contract, but it seems more likely she and Naomi have been inserted because of their ability to carry a match.

The names to really watch out for are Bayley and Ember Moon. Both were moved to the blue brand and made a statement their first night there by addressing SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. If it is indeed a fresh start, either one of them taking home the prize would be the shot-in-the-arm their career needs right now.

Whoever claims the contract will largely depend on who’s walking away as the winner in the Raw and SmackDown Live women’s title matches taking place on the same card. If Lynch retains both titles, then a heel like Bliss could be the odds-on-favorite considering the way WWE likes to do business with good against evil. However, if Charlotte Flair or Lacey Evans pull off a win in their respective matches it’s anyone’s guess who could step up with a cash-in. Regardless of who wins, any combination of matches will give us something we haven’t seen before, or at least not in a long while.

Conspicuous by their absences are veteran Mickie James and all three members of (the presumably disbanded) Riott Squad. An interesting turn-of-events would see any of the three bucking the rules, as they usually do, and inserting themselves in the match regardless allowing Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan or even Sarah Logan to snatch the victory. As we’ve seen in previous Money in the Bank matches, they play fast-and-loose with the rules. Carmella initially won with James Ellsworth’s help, so who’s to say something else unusual won’t go down on May 19? The question of when said Superstar will cash in is also looming.
