3. Yordan Alvarez

The Blue Jays are well-stocked with infield prospects. Third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is already in the big leagues, while Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette aren’t far behind. What the Blue Jays lack, however, is talent in the outfield. That could change if they manage to acquire prospect Yordan Alvarez from the Houston Astros.

Alvarez is physically imposing, standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 lbs. The 26th-ranked prospect in baseball, the 21-year-old Cuban national has been on a tear in Triple-A Round Rock so far this year, hitting 15 home runs while batting .395 with a 1.345 OPS in 34 games.

Alvarez isn’t a player the Astros will want to part with easily, but if any team has the depth it is them. The Astros outfield is already packed with George Springer, Michael Brantley and Josh Reddick. Together those three have combined to hit .324 with 28 home runs in 2019. It also doesn’t hurt that the Astros’ top prospect, Kyle Tucker, is also an outfielder.

If the Astros decide that one of those prospects is expendable, then their loss would be the Blue Jays’ gain.
