Andre Iguodala’s defense, Bruins sweep Hurricanes, MLB scoring binges and more highlights you may have missed from May 16, 2019.

1. Andre Iguodala with the clamps.

The Portland Trail Blazers had their chance. They were up 15 at the half. They properly adjusted the game plan and made life tougher on the Warriors while making it easier on themselves. CJ McCollum had arrived.

Too bad they were playing the Warriors, a team where you can do everything right for 46 minutes but do one thing wrong for 2 minutes and it’s game over. Damian Lillard had a chance to tie at the end of the game but the only guy on the court with an NBA Finals MVP was having none of it.

Thanks for coming, Portland.

2. Bruins sweep Hurricanes

Speaking of teams that just stopped by for the Conference Finals. The Carolina Hurricanes Cinderella run ended on Thursday with a 4-0 loss against the Boston Bruins. That’s also the series score, for those tracking at home. The Bruins power play led the way in Game 4 with David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron each scoring with the man advantage.

Now, the Bruins have two weeks to try and get the entire rulebook changed so they aren’t at a complete disadvantage against the San Jose Sharks.

3. Brooks Koepka sets course record

All eyes were on Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship because he’s like famous and good at golf or something. I don’t get the big deal. But Brooks Koepka? That’s a superstar right there. Koepka set a course record at Bethpage Black, shooting -7 (63) in the first round at the PGA Championship. That Tiger Woods guy? He shot +2 (72). Who is he again? Someone put some respect on Brooks Koepka.

4. Sox Suicide Squeeze

There’s nothing I love more than a suicide squeeze. Because I play a lot of MLB The Show 19 — specifically the Road to the Show mode, the only mode anyone should be playing — and just once I want the guys batting behind me to try a suicide squeeze when I’m on third. They never do. My player has 96 speed. We can pull it off. Cowards.

You know who isn’t a coward? Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria. Ryan Cordell laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, allowing Yolmer Sanchez to score. Just remember this play when the White Sox win the World Series.

5. All the runs.

You like home runs? The Rangers had the home runs. Texas slugged five dingers in a 16-1 win over the Royals. Rougned Odor had two knocks, including one in the video above.

16 runs wasn’t even the highest total in baseball on Thursday.

Nope, the Oakland A’s scored 17 runs against the Tigers on Thursday. The hit parade was highlighted by Jurickson Profar’s first career grand slam.

Something must be in the water in Oakland because those teams love scoring binges.
