Memphis Depay

Another Dutchman linked with a move to Liverpool is Memphis Depay. The Lyon forward is one of Ligue 1’s standout players and is said to have caught Klopp’s eye, despite having previously played for Manchester United.

Depay was targeted by the Reds before his move to Old Trafford in 2015 but ultimately elected to join compatriot Louis van Gaal in Manchester. That decision appears not to have burned any bridges and the former PSV star has once again popped up on Liverpool’s radar, for good reason.

The 25-year-old has played a key role in Lyon’s push for continental soccer this season, scoring 10 goals and assisting nine more from out wide. His form in France, which includes a 19-goal return last season and Ligue 1 Goal of the Season award, is reflective of player who’d be a great addition to Klopp’s current crop.

Able to play on either wing or up front, the former Eredivisie top-scorer is blessed with an abundance of pace and boasts many of the qualities that have seen Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah thrive at Anfield. Liverpool’s front-three rank among the best in the world and Depay would fit in seamlessly when called upon.

He’d also add to a growing contingent of Dutch players at Liverpool, with the club already boasting stars like Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum. Depay enjoys a particularly strong friendship with the latter which could help facilitate a move in the future.
