2. Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers’ third baseman Travis Shaw is a few weeks away from returning to the lineup after a wrist injury, but the job might not be his for much longer.

Shaw has been the Brewers primary third baseman for the past three seasons, but so far 2019 is shaping up to be the worst of those years. He’s hitting just .163 this year in 40 games while driving in just eight runs. He’s talked about needing a “reset” on the season, treating his return almost like another opening day. In his place, the Brewers called up top prospect Keston Hiura, who responded by hitting his first career home run on Sunday, but their third base situation is just the kind that makes acquiring a player like Rendon a real consideration.

Even with little production out of the third base spot, the Brewers have scored the seventh-most runs in the Majors and are fourth in home runs. That’s due largely to the play of reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich, who’s picked up right where he left off with a league-leading 19 home runs. The Brewers are 28-21 and just 1.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Last season they came a game away from the World Series; with the addition of Rendon, they stand a good chance to get back to that spot once again in 2019.
