2. Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have been the movers and shakers of the NFL this offseason, so why not have them in the mix for Gerald McCoy? The Browns have already added to their defensive line by signing Sheldon Richardson in free agency and trading for Olivier Vernon, but that didn’t stop them from exploring a deal for McCoy while he was still a member of the Buccaneers.

There isn’t a clear fit on the Browns’ defensive front for McCoy, who also have Myles Garrett on the outside and 24-year old Larry Ogunjobi paired with Richardson on the interior, but it still makes sense to add him. Players with McCoy’s talent and ability don’t grow on trees, and teams with the ability to add that kind of player should definitely do it.

Adding McCoy would also give Cleveland an extremely enviable depth chart on the defensive line, allowing them to rotate all of these players to keep them fresher later in games. That would mean guys like Garrett and Richardson are getting more rest during games, which could make the Browns’ pass rush even more fearsome in the fourth quarter.

Cleveland is clearly in a win-now state of mind, which almost never happens for the Browns, so they should take full advantage of talented players hitting the market. The ability to be a part of one of the league’s most exciting teams could also appeal to McCoy, who could be looking to bolster his national profile after toiling on a lot of bad Buccaneers’ teams over the course of his career.
