3. Madison Bumgarner

The idea of the Yankees making a move for Madison Bumgarner isn’t new. The Giants’ southpaw is widely predicted to be the best starting pitcher who will move this season. As such, it’s safe to assume San Francisco will look for a small fortune to part ways with him.

Cashman might not be willing to meet their steep asking price, but that doesn’t mean the Yankees couldn’t use a pitcher of Bumgarner’s caliber. He’s just the sort of ace that could turn a playoff series on its head with one dominant start.

The Yankees are still hopeful that Luis Severino will return and anchor their rotation after the All-Star break, but there’s a cloud of mystery surrounding his current injury status. No one can really be sure when Severino will return or what sort of condition he’ll be in.

Even if Severino does come back in good form, Bumgarner would give Boone four good starting pitchers to count on in October. A playoff rotation of Severino, Bumgarner, James Paxton and Masahiro Tanaka could be enough to cause a parade in the Canyon of Heroes.
