Kentucky – Paul Hornung

The state that produced players like Tim Couch, Shaun Alexander, Dermontti Dawson and others was claimed in this list by none other than former Notre Dame do-it-all Golden Boy, Paul Hornung.

Hornung’s Fighting Irish were 2-8 in the season that Hornung won the Heisman Trophy in 1956, and Hornung led the team in just about every offensive category, while also playing defense and kicking. He only had 466 yards from scrimmage for six touchdowns, while throwing three touchdowns to 13 interceptions.

He’s the last player from a losing team to win the Heisman and likely will never be done again. His win over Jim Brown, who finished fifth, is one of the more controversial results.

Hornung threw for 917 yards (a team high) and three touchdowns that year and added 420 rushing yards with six more touchdowns. The year before, Hornung received All-American honors.

Hornung went on to a Hall of Fame career with the Green Bay Packers in the NFL.
