Ruby Riott undergoes shoulder surgery, has another scheduled per WWE
Ruby Riott hasn’t been seen much since the Riott Squad was disbanded in April. Now we know why: Injuries to both of her shoulders.
Ruby Riott’s faction, the Riott Squad, was broken up as collateral damage of WWE’s Superstar Shake-Up. Riott and Sarah Logan remained on Monday Night Raw while Liv Morgan headed over to SmackDown Live. Since then, all three of the women have been left out of important women’s division storylines and none are close to any championship.
For Morgan and Logan, that’s just a matter of their spots on the hierarchy of Superstars not quite being high enough. But for Riott, it seemed like going solo would help raise her cache and get her involved in high-profile feuds.
If that is in the cards for Riott, it appears it will have to wait some time. WWE announced on Wednesday that Riott “underwent successful surgery yesterday [Tuesday] to repair a bilateral injury to her right shoulder.” WWE went on to say that she will have to undergo the same operation on her left shoulder “at a later date.”
There’s no indication of the type or severity of the injuries beyond what WWE stated in their brief announcement, nor when they occurred (Riott did take part in matches during WWE’s European tour earlier in May). In June 2018, fellow WWE Superstar Sami Zayn underwent surgeries to repair torn rotator cuffs in each of his shoulders. He was cleared for in-ring action in late March or early April, finally returning to television officially on the Raw after WrestleMania 35.
If Riott’s injuries are the same or similar to Zayn’s, it could be nine or 10 months before she returns to action for the WWE. Again, we don’t know if this is the case, but with one surgery already completed and another ahead, it will still be some time before Riott can get in the ring again.
We wish Riott the best on her recovery.
