After falling just one game short of the Super Bowl last season, the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking towards these five players to play a big role in getting them to the promised land in 2019.

The Kansas City Chiefs took the league by storm in 2018 thanks to the emergence of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes easily won the NFL MVP by throwing for over 5,000 yards and tossing 50 touchdowns, allowing the Chiefs’ explosive offense to run roughshod over the league.

The Chiefs rode their offense to home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, only for that run to end at the hands of the New England Patriots, who won the coin toss in overtime of the AFC title game and marched right down the field for the winning touchdown. Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton was fired after that game, and the Chiefs have seen a lot of change in the offseason.

Veteran leaders like Justin Houston and Eric Berry were released while Dee Ford, whose offsides penalty wiped out a potential Super Bowl berth clinching interception, was traded away. The Chiefs also lost center Mitch Morse in free agency and are in limbo with star receiver Tyreek Hill, who is in legal hot water after an incident that saw his three year old son end up with a broken arm.

Despite all the changes, the Chiefs are still in an excellent position to win the AFC West and represent the conference in the Super Bowl. In order to get there, however, the Chiefs will need big years out of several key players.

Let’s start out by looking at one of the Chiefs’ newest members of the secondary, cornerback Bashaud Breeland.
