DFS MLB – Love, Like, Leave – 5/25 Main Slate

Hey guys, fancy seeing you here again! If you’ve been with me all day today, you’ll know this is my third article for the day. If not, thanks for tuning in anyways. As much fun as it’s been to dissect multiple DFS MLB slates, it is currently 2AM and I am entering my 6th hour of writing, so please excuse me if this article is a little bit shorter than normal. Sunday will be going back to the regular schedule of one article a day.

We have another game at Coors today, and even though Story and Arenado exploded last night, Andrew Cashner is a remarkably underrated pitcher, so there may be reason to avoid the chalk.

If you want to find out, follow me!

Starting Pitcher

Love

Mike Soroka (10,000): Both Soroka and Ryu are elite options (much like Morton and Corbin were earlier) so I can’t fault you for rostering either of them. Soroka has been absolutely spectacular in his 7 starts, posting a mind-boggling 1.01 ERA. I like him as the top option tonight.

Like

Mike Minor (9,200): When one of my friends told me Mike Minor was going to have a breakout year, I didn’t believe him. I am willing to admit when I am wrong though, as Minor has been fantastic. He still carries a sub 3 ERA and a K/9 north of 9, so he is a solid option against a LA team that is still weak, despite adding the bat of Ohtani.

Leave

David Price (8,500): I advised against Sale yesterday, and while he was fine, he didn’t deliver elite numbers. I think Price fares even worse, as he lacks the high-end swing and miss stuff that makes Sale so difficult.

First Baseman

Love

Freddie Freeman (4,200): I think it’s time we start considering Freeman a top 5 hitter in the MLB. He has 6 homers in his last 9 games, and continues to provide elite production in Atlanta. Look for him to go yard again today!

Like

Kendrys Morales (2,500): Morales is a guy that is continually brought up because of his ability to hit for power, but the man rarely connects. This is nothing more than a dart throw at what I think is a bad pitcher for a position that is thin today.

Leave

Josh Bell (4,500): Speaking of top 5 hitters in the MLB, is it time to start putting Bell there too? The Pirates first basemen has been out of this world good this year, but I think he has finally met his match in Ryu. This is going to be the battle of two titans, and I want absolutely no part of it. Will the Bell ring, or get his bell rung?

Second Baseman

Love

Jonathan Villar (3,600): Ownership on the main Rockies was in the 70’s last night, while many of the Orioles went unnoticed. Freeland provides a softer matchup than Cashner in my opinion, so I may be quite heavy on Baltimore batters, starting with Villar.

Like

Brendan Rodgers (3,200): I said Cashner was good, but Rodgers has continued to hit well, posting another multi hit game yesterday. Baltimore is one of the teams that you can stack against even with their “ace” pitching, because their bullpen is that bad. Yesterday was a perfect example of this.

Leave

Michael Chavis (3,900): As always, second base is a cesspool for fantasy bats, so some people may have the desire to simply stick Chavis, the top option, and forget about it. I’m sticking to Villar or Rodgers, so fading Chavis is a no-brainer.

Third Baseman

Love

Renato Nunez (3,400): The Baltimore bats seem remarkably underpriced today, with multiple guys sitting in the mid 3000’s, despite having a great roster spot and a fantastic matchup. Nunez is one of those guys, and he will probably be part of a three-man stack for Baltmore and me today.

Like

David Freese (2,500): Freese gets to face off against his old team, who he just hit a grand slam against. I am not always into narratives, but since Turner is resting, Freese may get a spot at the top of the lineup, and if he does, I’m all over it.

Leave

Nolan Arenado (4,700): Fresh off a massive 3 hit, 2 home run game that came at heavy ownership, I anticipate the masses will flock back to him, potentially in higher numbers than yesterday. Like I mentioned before, Cashner provides a tougher matchup, and if you go heavy on pitching, there may not be money left over for Nado.

Shortstop

Love

Corey Seager (2,900): Seager seems to be finally coming around, as he posted another solid game yesterday. For such a high potential bat, he is still priced a lot lower than I would expect, and he gets an iffy matchup against Musgrove. He is a good place to save some salary tonight, and you can expect he has a solid floor.

Like

Carlos Correa (3,700): I’m not the biggest fan of David Price tonight, and after posting two straight goose eggs, I think Correa rebounds today. Correa has a history of hitting well against top pitchers, as recently as last week when he went yard off Price’s teammate Chris Sale. The young shortstop is as explosive a bat as any.

Leave

Xander Bogaerts (4,200): On the other side of the diamond, X provides an interesting play. He is still coming into his own as a bat, and has hit fantastically this year, but is priced the same as my number one play on the entire slate in Freddie Freeman. You can’t spend up for too many bats, so I think there are much better ones that X.

Outfielders

Love

Keon Broxton (2,700): The Broxton breakout is on its way now. Hop on before it’s too late. Broxton hit 200 homers two years ago, and in a dream matchup at Coors, he could provide some power at a discount. He proved he has the pop yesterday, and gets an even better look today.

Like

Alex Verdugo (2,800): Verdugo finally got the chance to rest yesterday, after starting each of the last 10 games. They were disappointing, but I’m hoping the day off gave him a chance to clear his head. Another bat who may be promoted by Turner’s time off, Verdugo has shown he can hit for average and situation, so banking on an RBI single or double is not crazy.

Leave

Cody Bellinger (4,700): Even though Bellinger hit another home run yesterday, the regression may finally be upon up,  as he’s 1 for his last 9. He is going to remain an elite option for the entire season, but he may not justify the gaudy price tag for much longer. He’s still hitting .328 this month so don’t think he will just disappear, but I’m fading today.
