Dynasty Rookie Fantasy Football ADP and Draft Advice

Dynasty rookie drafts are finally here! If you play in a Dynasty league this is the time to potentially improve your roster and make that championship push but who should you draft? Where can I get the players I want? What is the best strategy to improve my squad?

There are some great players to help you reach that fantasy promise land but you need to know where to get them and identify those “diamond in the rough” late round gems and top dynasty rookie plays.

I will explain the ADP of the drafts I have completed and some strategies on where to get who you want or where to attack.  I will also give you a few suggestions of players I like later in drafts or players I am throwing that proverbial “dart throw” at.

The ADP or average draft position of players is your blueprint of where rookies are being drafted. In the first round, things are usually the most solid. The first overall pick in most of my drafts has been Josh Jacobs or if you play in a Superflex or 2 QB league it could be Kyler Murray.

The next two picks could be N’Keal Harry or David Montgomery, and then Miles Sanders and D.K. Metcalf seem fairly common.  The rest of the first round is a toss up but T.J. Hockenson will probably be drafted at some point and definitely if your league that starts 2 TEs. Noah Fant will probably also go in the first round of these types of leagues.

The 2 QB and Superflex leagues you might also see Dwayne Haskins in the first round depending on team need. Mecole Hardman has been drafted late in round one but is moving up in the first round and the last rookie draft saw him go at 1.05. The other first rounders are usually A.J. Brown, Marquise Brown and/or Paris Campbell.

The second and third rounds are the place that there is the most movement in ADP. This year, the first three rounds are the best chances to get an impact player. In these rounds, the players I am targeting are Darrell Henderson RB, Devin Singletary RB, Darwin Thompson RB, Benny Snell RB, Gary Jennings (mid to late round 3), Ryquell Armstead RB, Alexander Maddison RB, and my sleeper pick is Diontae Johnson WR Steelers. The RB’s in these rounds are going to be backups with the potential to steal carries from the starter or be used as a third down back in a rotation. Devin Singletary may be the lead back by the end of the year as the Bills only have Frank Gore and LeSean McCoy in front of him who are both nearing the end of their career. I have also heard some talk that McCoy could be cut by season start.

As I said earlier, Dionte Johnson is my rookie draft sleeper. The depth chart is open for him to make a push to be the #2 WR behind JuJu Smith Schuster. The only others fighting for that spot are James Washington, who did not have a good rookie year and Donte Moncrief who has never been more than a third WR option for any team he has played for. Johnson compares very nicely to Antonio Brown.

The selections I make in my Rookie drafts I are best player available or BPA. This way you don’t miss on a better player because you want to draft for a certain position. Remember that there is a lot of trading in Dynasty so you can always deal that player later. I would rather have multiple good WRs or RBs and have a week TE then reach for a TE because I need one. There are some great TEs in this class (Hockenson, Fant, Smith, Sternberger) but it usually takes a few years before they are consistent fantasy producers.

If you are looking for late round recommendations I have a few RBs for you. I like the situations these players are in because the depth chart is thin and/or injury prone or ineffective starters in front of them. Karan Higdon (Texans), Qadree Ollison (Falcons), Devine Ozigbo (Saints), I would rather draft a late RB than WR because teams seem to give the younger RB a shot before the younger WR in my opinion. The shelf life of RBs is much shorter than WRs so teams are always looking for that younger runner with fresh legs.

If you play Dynasty this a very fun part of the fantasy year. The only other way to vastly improve your roster besides trading is the rookie drafts. The rookies are on teams now so it is time to start that research if you haven’t already and get that player that you need to make that championship run. Good luck.
