Power ranking Hard Knocks’ options based on entertainment value
There still hasn’t been a volunteer to participate in the latest season of HBO’s Hard Knocks, so which of the potential teams that can be tapped by the league would be the most entertaining?
The arrival of the latest season of Hard Knocks is a welcome development for football fans as it means the new season isn’t too far away.
The hit HBO series follows a team through training camp every year as they get ready for the upcoming NFL season, including last summer’s spotlight on the Cleveland Browns, who were highly entertaining as Gregg Williams, Baker Mayfield, Hue Jackson and offensive line coach Bob Wylie, who became one of the show’s breakout stars.
Usually the league is able to convince a team to volunteer to participate in the reality show, but the current collective bargaining agreement has a clause built in to “draft” a team for HBO to follow if no one volunteers.
There are three conditions which can disqualify a team from being drafted:
- They have a first-year head coach
- They have made the playoffs in one of the past two years.
- They have appeared on the show within the past 10 years.
These broad requirements eliminate all the teams in the league except for five: the San Francisco 49ers, the Detroit Lions, the New York Giants, the Washington Redskins and the Oakland Raiders.
None of them have appeared on Hard Knocks before, so we could be in for an interesting behind-the-scenes look at a different NFL franchise.
Let’s take a look at which of these teams would be the most fun to watch on the show, starting with our least entertaining option, the Detroit Lions.
