Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: May 31st

Tonight’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks slate features 15 games with, Colorado (7.6), Cleveland (5.7), Texas (5.4), and Kansas City (5.2) , holding the best projected team totals. With a handful of high-priced pitchers available, finding value will be imperative for success. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, and line movement.

MLB DFS Standout Picks: Batted Ball Stats

Yonder Alonso -DK $2800, FD $2400

While the matchup with Bauer may be difficult, the rising total and his recent batted ball stats, lead me to believe that Yonder Alonso could be an attractive, contrarian, play tonight. Alonso has seen a price decrease given his lack of recent production (other than last night). The price drop may be warranted considering the production, however, his batted ball stats tell a different story. In the last 15 days, his a batted ball distance is up 15 feet, his hard hit percentage is down 9%, and his exit velocity is up 1MPH. So while his batted ball stats have stayed somewhat the same, his price has fallen $1400 from where he was previously priced earlier this month, at $4200. Alonso is a tremendous buy low candidate tonight.

Shohei Ohtani – DK $3800, FD $3200

Shoehei Ohtani will be on the good side of a lefty vs. righty split, and is as cheap as he’s been in awhile, on both sites tonight. Ohtani was priced as high as $4900 earlier this month, and has now dropped below the $4000 mark on DraftKings. His recent batted ball distance has dropped considerably, however his hard hit percentage and exit velocity have remained steady. I would expect more positive regression to come his way tonight.

Batter Splits

Daniel Murphy – DK $4800, FD $3900

Colorado holds a significantly higher team total, over most other teams tonight. One batter to look at if you’re a fan of targeting splits, is Daniel Murphy. Murphy will face the righty, Edwin Jackson. He’s much better against right handed pitching, with a .336 wOBA split (.047 better than when facing a lefty) and a .167 ISO split (.08 better than when facing a lefty).

Line Movement

Cleveland will be on the road tonight, as they take on the Chicago White Sox, in a game in which Cleveland is currently a -169 favorite. The line has stayed around this number since opening, but the total has seen a lot of movement. The game total at 8.5 at some shops (most opened at 9), and is now all the way up to 10. This is some pretty serious movement and may be something to dig into for DFS tonight. The switch hitters and lefties could prove to be problems for the righty, Covey.

Stolen Base Upside

Jose Ramirez – DK $4100, FD $3300

Jose Ramirez and the Cleveland batters will have an attractive matchups on the base paths, as they face the righty, Dylan Covey. Covey allowed 11 stolen bases, over the course of 121.2 innings last season. So far this year, he’s allowed three, over the course of 26.1 innings pitched. This should be an added boost of value to runners like Ramirez, who has stolen 14 bases this season (tied for second most in baseball).
